Finding Her Focus at ¹û¶³´«Ã½
Sanchez is a Long Island, New York, native who relocated to Florida to attend college.
"I initially chose ¹û¶³´«Ã½ because they gave me a great academic scholarship," Sanchez said. "After experiencing the campus during a visit, I fell in love with the small school atmosphere. It was really cozy and everyone was so friendly. I really loved how beautiful the campus was and all the outdoor activities there are to do."
Kristin Goerl, whose married and professional name is Kristin Sanchez, graduated from Florida Southern with a degree in broadcast, print, and online media and a double minor in Spanish and business in an impressive three years.
Sanchez is currently working towards a master's degree in Public Relations from the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communication.
She said her internships at ¹û¶³´«Ã½ helped prepare her for her career. She completed her first internship at a small production company in Lakeland during her freshman year.
"That internship and my persistence helped me get my next internship at FOX 13 Tampa and from there I was able to get my first job out of college at NBC Sports Golf Channel in Orlando," Sanchez said.
"I always had a love for storytelling and I knew I wanted to use my voice for good. That's when it clicked I could do both with journalism."
She remembers having to shoot a stand up for one of her senior classes.
"I think that helped a little bit when it came to getting my confidence in front of the camera," she said.
Kristin Sanchez '13 hosts South Florida Live', which premiered on Miami's NBC6 in June.
